I’m excited to bring you another author interview today. We’ve got a new author, Autumn Seigel, joining us. She has written one book, ReAwaken, and that was the inspiration for the candle we collaborated on – Edanna.
As you’ll see in the interview, Autumn was a NaNoWriMo winner and is a multi-creative who finds lots of ways to express he creativity and ideas. I hope you enjoy meeting Autumn!
Hi Autumn! Thanks so much for chatting with us today!
So I did some research on your book, Reawaken, and I found out that it won a prize in the NaNoWriMo for 2013. Can you tell us a bit about your experience with NaNoWriMo process and how that became a published work?
I wasn’t even expecting ReAwaken to become a published work. 2013 was the year I lost both of my grandpas and they were never able to see this book finished. So, that gave me the courage and the urge to get this book done and I was able to finish after 4 years and 7 drafts.
In Reawaken we meet Arianna and her friends. They are all part of this group of people who have had their memories erased and have been given special “gifts” to help them prepare for a “New Earth”. How did this storyline come to you?
Most of my ideas come from dreams. Most authors have to even think up names for the characters but with this story, I was able to get everything from dreams. Arianna came easy for me and her name wasn’t budging for a change. But, it was interesting how her story changed over the course of 7 drafts.
Arianna is special and it seems she’s got more adventures ahead – are you working on Book 2 in the series? Can you give us a teaser on where things are headed (without spoilers of course!)?
Yes, there is a book 2 in the works and the stakes are higher than ever. Arianna has to face her destiny and her choices affect the fate of the people around her and if the Earth is to survive.
You call yourself an Artist and Dreamer and you seem to have few outlets for both of those passions. Can you tell us what other ways you express your creativity? Do you have any advice for those who are creatively multi-passionate?
I draw manga (Japanese comic books) and I also read. My advice to those people who are mult-creative is to fully embrace those other passions. There are some days when I don’t want to write at all so I go and draw and it also helps with my anxiety.
Who are your creative inspirations? Either in writing or in your other passions?
James Patterson of the Maximum Ride series and JK Rowling of Harry Potter series.
Summer is just around the corner! What’s on your summer reading list?
I am currently reading Everything, Everything by Nicola Yoon and my next read will be Moon Chosen by PC Cast.
Do you have any upcoming events you’d like to share with my readers so they can meet you in person?
On June 22 I will be at the Auglaize County Public Library-Wapakoneta, Ohio Main Branch for a book signing at 1 pm. It will be during the library’s Summer Reading Program!

What I loved about ReAwaken:
I loved the blend of dystopian and magic in this story. We have what seems to be a start to a dystopian book where teens are taken from their families, memories wiped and treated like numbers. But as we go along we see there’s something else going on for one of the characters and this book gets us started on what looks like to be an interesting magical journey for her and her friends.- Nalana @ Book Scents
